High quality data on mineral trading in North Kivu

David Barouski posted last October a very powerful and detailed presentation on cassiterite ore trade in North Kivu. Barouski (as well as Danwatch and others) points out that the rise of prices of tin in 2004 was directly linked with environmental laws in the EU and Japan that forced all lead-based solder to be replaced with tin.  Not coincidentally, as Barouski underlines, the increase of cassiterite ore demand concided with the beggining of Laurent Nkunda´s insurrection.

As a recent article in Liberation pointed out, Barouski also fingers to the 85th brigade of Samy Matumo in Bisie and Kilambo and the governement of Kivu´s unwillingness to take action against him.
