1,800 families without latrines

November 25, 2008

Right now, while these lines are written, 1,800 families are packed at the entrance of the MONUC base in Rutshuru. Hundreds of women and children gather there as they can. They lie there because they consider that spot as the only one safe enough in the whole town.

There is no food and no latrines, and the people are close to each other. Imagine this situation.

Solidarités is doing a great job bringing water, but much more is needed. Schools are still empty, as people are very much afraid of sending their children back to school for fear of forced recruitment.
